The main building was erected in 1849 as a salt warehouse by the merchant widow Elisabeth Åkervall. Plots 207, 208 and 209 in the fourth quarter of the old plan of Kristinestad have long been combined, i.e. this house and the current youth centre and business centre, as well as the neighbouring plot to the south. In 1908, when Kristinestad Savings Bank acquired the three plots 207-209, the warehouse was converted into a residence and then got its current appearance in Art Nouveau style that matches the bank’s building on Skolgatan. In 1922, the then owner Henrik Nurmela from Lappfjärd sold the house to trader John Spolander, who had a shop first at the market square and then on Strandgatan. There have been no shops in this building.
