It was in 1837 that the merchant Simon Anders Wendelin had this business building built on the Strandgatan 38. Today the official address is Salutorget 1.
After Wendelin’s bankruptcy in 1887, the yard was taken over by the merchant Konrad Sundman. Between 1918 and 1981, Föreningsbanken offices were located in this building.
The city of Kristinestad acquired the building in 1981 and in 1984 the city library was moved there. In addition, today, you’ll find the Kristinestad’s Maritime Museum in the attic and the restaurang Crazy Cat in the basement.
